Kake

掛け

KAH-keh

The execution phase of a judo throw — the final application of force that completes the technique and sends uke to the mat.

Context & Usage

Kake is the third phase of throwing, following kuzushi (balance breaking) and tsukuri (fitting). During kake, tori commits fully to the throw, applying the technique-specific force to project uke. Kake without proper kuzushi and tsukuri is unlikely to succeed against a resisting opponent.
