Judogi

柔道着

joo-DOH-gee

The traditional uniform worn in judo, consisting of a jacket (uwagi), trousers (zubon), and belt (obi).

Context & Usage

The judogi is specifically designed for judo: the thick, reinforced collar and jacket fabric is built to withstand gripping forces. Grip techniques and many chokes rely on the judogi. IJF competition specifies strict requirements for judogi dimensions.
